World Cup Tournament Structure and Competition Draw
Tuesday 15th Mar, 2011 @ 00:00
The TWC2011 event brings together 95 teams from 28 countries in seven divisions, with the three open divisions in Men's, Women's and Mixed leading the elite element of our sport.

The gathering in Edinburgh 20-26 June, in just 100 days time, will put in place some 1400 people from all parts of the world. The majority of representative teams have never competed in a World Cup event. They will compete for the World Champion title in Touch – the sport for all.
The event already presents some degree of conflict between the cultural and performance need. The very nature of the tournament structure needs to balance the demands of high level physical output with the social and relationship benefits such an event presents.
It is physically impossible for teams to play all other teams in each division. A Pool structure is necessary. To participate in too few games will reduce the social and cultural aspects such a global tournament presents. To participate in too many games will lessen elite performance.
However the most important aspect of any tournament structure and competition draw is the availability of facilities and officials – in particular match officials or referees. Peffermill is well prepared with a minimum of ten playing fields. The available number of high quality referees befitting this elite event is critical. Selecting and securing the required number has caused some delay in distribution of the TWC2011 Tournament Structure and Draft Competition Draw.
It is expected that referee selection and appointments will be finalised shortly and that both the structure and draw documents for TWC2011 will be released before 20th March 2011.
