Tickets and the event
- Can I purchase tickets?
- No the event is free to watch.
- Is there parking at Peffermill?
- Please note that there will be no parking at Peffermill playing fields for competing teams and public. Teams coming by minibus will be allowed to drop off and pick up within the drop off zone at Peffermill but there will be no waiting and a strict enforcement of exit and entry of minibuses will be observed. Limited parking is available on the surrounding streets but please be aware of local restrictions on and off Peffermill Road. Additional parking can be found at Peffermill Industrial Estate, 12 King's Haugh, Edinburgh EH16 5UY (500 yards past the main entrance to Peffermill playing fields towards Craigmillar) but vehicles parked here and in the surrounding area are left at the owner’s risk. Only those vehicles that have a permit will be allowed to enter Peffermill. These permits are for Edinburgh University staff, volunteers, medics and operational staff only.
- How do I get out to Peffermill? What buses go there?
- The address is Peffermill Sports Centre, Peffermill, EH16 5LL. From the East End or Princes Street you can catch a local LRT Bus, number 14, 30 or 33. You should ask for a single ticket at a cost of £1.30.
- Is there an opportunity for members of the public to play and learn more?
- Yes, there will be a youth 'Come and Try' day on Tuesday 22 June (times tbc) led by players from the top nations. For further details ask through local Secondary Schools and keep checking the news section of this website when an announcement will be made in March 2011. Alternatively it is worth visiting the Scottish Touch Association web site for details of the game in Scotland www.scottishtouch.org.uk
- What will happen during the competition days at Peffermill?
- Touch games will be played consistently throughout the competition days providing a great atmosphere to watch the sport at the highest level. Food and beverage stalls, a bar, official merchandise stand and ice cream van will all be in attendance throughout the week.
- What time does the event start?
- There will be 5 days of play with pool games played on Wednesday 22 June to Friday 24 June 2011. Over the weekend 25/26 June the senior division and open finals will take place with play likely to start each day at 9am and going through to approx 6pm. A detailed timetable and draw will be issued in March 2011
- Can I enter a team?
- Touch is overseen and governed by FIT, the Federation of International Touch and is a global game. All team entries are received through FIT’s member nations. To see if your country is a member visit: www.international-touch.org
- Can I bring my partner or parents to the Celebration Party?
- Unfortunately this event will be fully subscribed with players, management and volunteers.
About Touch
- Who is playing?
- Around 27 countries will be represented. Touch is extremely popular in New Zealand and Australia and these countries will be well represented alongside teams from South Africa, Papua New Guinea and Niue. From Europe the home nations ie Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales will all be in attendance and from across Europe France, Netherlands, Switzerland will join Spain, Portugal and Italy. MENS 35s/40s - Australia - What do you mean by ‘open’ and ‘senior’?
- Open grade is open to all male and female only players of any age but generally under 30 years of age where as seniors refers to Men aged 35-40 and Men 40 years +.There are various levels of play and Touch is the one sport where you will see men and women compete side by side in the mixed tournament at ‘open’ level and ‘mixed open’ for players 30 years +.
- How many games will there be?
- The draw will be made in 2011 and in each competition pool matches will be played with play offs and finals. There could be as many as 500 games played depending on the final number of teams entered
- Is this rugby players playing non-contact rugby or is it something else?
- No, Touch is a dynamic sport played in it’s own right by supremely fit and talented athletes. Whilst it does attract former rugby players, the rules, running angles and game strategies are totally different to ‘Touch’ and we would encourage everyone to come along and see this sport being played by the best players in the world.

Accommodation enquiries
- I am playing in one of the participating teams can I book accommodation directly?
- No the organisers are asking that all enquiries in the first instance are made through their own country Federations and that all bookings are then made through their appointed representatives. See the accommodation section for further details.
- My family are coming to support me, can they stay in Pollock Halls?
- No the halls are being used by teams only and Pollock Halls is the Official World Cup Village. There are plenty of accommodation options in Edinburgh from apartments, B&B’s, to guest houses and hotels. - Is there parking at Pollock Halls
- There is limited parking at Pollock Halls this will be limited and although there is metered parking on the surrounding streets during the week it will be costly. We advise you to make alternative transport arrangements and where possible use public transport.
Getting around, transport etc
- How far are the playing fields at Peffermill from Pollock Halls?
- A gentle 15 minute stroll or local public transport can be used, LRT Bus number 14,30 or 33.
- Will transport be provided for teams to and from the playing venue?
- No, due to the close proximity of Peffermill to the accommodation at Pollock Halls it is an easy gentle 15 minute stroll
- How far is the accommodation at Pollock Halls to Edinburgh City Centre?
- Only 4KM. You can easily walk in or catch a local bus, number 14, 30 or 33 goes from the East End of Princes Street past Pollock Halls and onto Peffermill.
- How do I get from the airport to Pollock Halls?
- A taxi will take you there in less than 30mins and cost approx £20. There is a regular bus service from the airport to the East End, a single ticket will cost less than £4 and from the East End or Princes Street you can then catch a local LRT Bus, number 14, 30 or 33. You should ask for a single ticket at a cost of £1.20.
